When to Keep Your Child Home from School
To help keep our school community healthy and prevent the spread of illness, please keep your child home if they are experiencing any of the following:
- Fever of 100.4°F or higher – keep your child home until they are fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication (ie: Tylenol/Motrin).
- Vomiting or diarrhea within the past 24 hours. Your child can return once they are free from vomiting or diarrhea for at least 24 hours.
- Rash or Hives on the body and is accompanied by fever or itching. Please have your child evaluated by a doctor and cleared to return to school.
- Head Lice students must be treated and lice-free at home and cleared by the school nurse before returning. A parent or guardian must accompany the student to the Health Service office when returning after treatment.
- Sore throat with fever or after known exposure to strep throat – a doctor’s evaluation is recommended.
- Red, itchy, "crusty" eyes with drainage – may be a sign of conjunctivitis (pink eye). Please have your child evaluated by a doctor and cleared to return to school.
- Hospital Stay or ER Visit - Your child will need to be released by a medical provider to be able to return to school.
If your child becomes ill during the school day, the school nurse will evaluate their condition and contact you if they need to go home. For your child’s well-being and the safety of others, we appreciate your cooperation in following these guidelines.
