• EASD Guidelines for School Delays and Closings

In the event of inclement weather, the safety of our students and staff is our top priority. The District follows a careful process to determine school delays, closures, or Flexible Instruction Days (FID). Delaying school is always preferred over closing, when conditions allow.

    Decision-Making Process

    • The Superintendent monitors weather forecasts and begins coordinating with local police, transportation, and maintenance teams as early as 4:30 AM.
    • Road conditions, school grounds, and regional superintendent input are all considered.
    • A final decision is typically made by 5:00 AM, but may come later depending on conditions.
    • Once a delay is called, it is rarely changed to a closure, as transportation and staffing are already in motion.
